The 2003 Volkswagen Golf returns with minor overall changes and it is available in four hatchback models: GL, GL TDI, GLS, and GLS TDI. While the GL and GLS are powered by a 2.0L 115-hp engine, the GL TDI and GLS TDI are powered by a 1.9L 90-hp turbocharged diesel engine. When equipped with the five-speed manual transmission and TDI diesel engine, the Golf attains an efficient 42 mpg city and 49 mpg highway. A four-speed automatic transmission is optional on all models. Other options include the Cold Weather Package, a Radio System, and an Electronic Stability Program. Safety features include front and side airbags and anti-lock disc brakes. For added safety, an alarm system, child safety locks, and side impact door bean are also available.
