The Ford Escape returns for this model year with minor changes. Available models include the XLS and XLT in 2WD and 4WD. Changes for 2002 include several new exterior colors, upgraded stereo components and interior luxuries such as a power driver's seat and privacy glass on XLT models. In addition, the previously optional 3.0L Duratec engine and automatic transmission are now standard on the XLT. For improved safety, all models feature optional side airbags and four-wheel ABS brakes. Available packages include the XLS and XLT Sport Group, the Convenience Group and the Leather Comfort Group. The Leather Comfort Group includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an overhead console with storage, and leather seating surfaces.
