The Jetta returns this new model year with several detail refinements. The optional 1.8T turbo engine has been upgraded from 150 horsepower to 180 horsepower. A new five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission is available with the 1.8T, while a five-speed manual is standard. A new premium stereo system with cassette and in-dash CD player, scheduled for a mid-year release, will be standard on all GLS and GLX models. The VR6 engine, standard on the GLX and optional on the GLS, will also be upgraded later this year. The new VR6, with the aid of a new four-valve arrangement, will boast 201 horsepower. Standard with the new VR6 will be a six-speed manual transmission, while a five-speed Tiptronic automatic will be optional.
