The 2001 Ford Explorer 4WD returns this model year with minor changes. Available models include the XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. A 210-horsepower 4.0L V-6 engine, combined with a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission, is standard on all 4WD models. Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, side intrusion door beams, and dual front second-generation airbags. Front side airbags are also optional on all models. The Power Equipment Group provides power windows and door locks with illuminated controls, electric mirrors, and accessory delay. The Ford MACH audio system, which generates 290 watts of peak power, is standard on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. A six-disc CD changer is available on all models except the XLS.
