The 2001 Ford Explorer 2WD returns this model year with minor changes. Available models include the XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. The 4.0L 160-hp V-6 engine and the five-speed manual transmission have been dropped from the lineup. The 210-hp 4.0L V-6 combined with the five-speed automatic overdrive transmission are now standard, and a 215-hp 5.0L V-8 is optional on all models, except the XLS. Safety features include four-wheel anti-lock brakes and dual front airbags. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, a luggage rack, and power mirrors, windows and door locks. The Eddie Bauer model also includes a color-keyed, two-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel with radio controls.
