The Dakota returns with minor changes. This year, the next generation 4.7L Magnum V8 engine with multi-speed automatic transmission replaces the 5.2L V8 Automatic. A 22-gallon fuel tank is now standard. The Dakota is offered in three decor groups: Base, Sport and SLT. All models with a V6 or V8 engine receive a new hybrid cooling fan to provide quieter operation and better A/C performance. The 4WD model receives a new rack and pinion steering assembly to enhance handling, and passenger assist handles are added to all 2WD models (currently on the 4WD models). New exterior colors include Dark Garnet Red, Amber Fire, Sierra Bronze and Patriot Blue. The 4WD model offers a shift-on-the-fly transfer case and an optional Skid Plate Group.
