For 1999, the 911 Carrera is completely redesigned. This is the first all new 911 Carrera in 34 years. For the first time in the history of 911 Carrera, the engine is not air cooled. The all new 911 Carrera retains its rear engine rear wheel drive layout, but the new multi-valve engine requires water cooling to keep the temperature down. The new engine is more powerful and fuel efficient than its predecessor. The new 911 shares many design, technological and engineering features with the Boxster. Some of the shared features include the headlight assemblies, brake systems and the liquid-cooled engine technology. The new exterior is longer, wider and sleeker than before but is still easily distinguished as a 911 Carrera.
