The 1998 Passport Sport Utility is available in four models. The all-new redesigned sport utility received an overall increase in size compared to the previous model but sits on a shorter wheelbase. The redesigned six-cylinder engine is enhanced with increased horsepower to 205 and 214 pounds-feet of torque. In addition, the four-wheel drive models can now be engaged with the push of a button. The rear suspension has changed from a leaf spring to a five-link design with coil springs. The rack-and-pinion design replaced the recirculating ball steering. The automatic transmission is standard on EX models. The Wheel Package is optional on the LX 4WD and standard on EX 2WD and 4WD models. Both EX models offers optional leather seats.
