The 1998 Ranger Splash is available in 2WD and 4WD, Regular and Extended Cab models. New enhancements include greater horsepower on the base engine, greater torque on the six-cylinder engine and a longer wheelbase on the short and long-wheelbase models. The four-wheel drive models are now equipped with a pulse vacuum hublock system which replaces last year's electronic locking hubs. This system quietly engages or disengages the front wheel hubs even at highway speeds. The steering gear is replaced with power rack and pinion steering to improve handling. New exterior changes include a revised grille, bumpers, headlamps and taillamps. All models are now equipped with a passenger air bag which includes a manual deactivation switch.
