The 1997 Impreza is available in five models - Brighton coupe, L coupe, L sedan, L wagon and Outback wagon. New for 1997, the Impreza wagons have dropped the LX model and air conditioning, power door locks and upgraded stereo system have been added to the L model. The Highway Loss Data Institute continues to give a better than average collision rating for Impreza. Subaru feels that the majority of people that buy their vehicles are impressed by the all-wheel-drive system which is standard for all models. The Outback continues to lead the Impreza line-up in sales. With the market turning towards sport utility vehicles, Subaru hopes that the Out back will share that market.
