The 1997 XK8 is offered as a coupe and convertible. The XK8 is the first new version of sports car to be built from Coventry, England in 21 years. With an original interior and exterior of its own that helped it win Best In Show from Auto Week. The XK8 is replacing the XJS which was Jaguars best selling car and their longest in production. 60% of all projected sales are to the U.S. and 70% are for convertibles. This is the first new Jaguar designed 280hp 4LV8 engine (AJ-V8) which weighs 250lbs less than the XJS+s V12 (its predecessor). This weight loss contributes to better fuel economy for the XK8. Jaguar plans to offer a supercharged 350hp model XK8 in the future and introduce a performance package for the 1999 model year.
