Except for some minor enhancements for the 1997 model year, the Sentra remains virtually unchanged. Safety features include front and rear crumple zones, side impact door beams, energy-absorbing steering column and child safety door locks. All models are equipped with five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension, bucket seats, cup holders, tilt steering wheel, rear window defroster and tinted glass. A four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional on XE, GXE and GLE models. Additional options include a four-wheel disc ABS brakes (available on GXE and GLE models) and a power sunroof (available only on the GLE). Floor mats, a rear spoiler and CD changer are available on all models as port installed options.
