Except for some minor enhancements for the 1997 model year, the 200SX remains virtually unchanged. All models receive a rear spoiler as standard equipment. Safety features include front and rear crumple zones, side impact door beams, energy-absorbing steering column and dual air bags. All models are equipped with bucket seats, tilt steering wheel, rear window defroster and tinted glass. A 1.6L engine is standard for the base and SE models, while the 2.0L engine remains standard for the SE-R. The four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional on all models. The automatic transmission on the SE-R is electronically controlled. Also, an anti-lock braking system is available on the SE and SE-R models at extra cost.
