New for 1997, Toyota increases the Avalon+s 24-valve V6 engines' horsepower output from 192 to 200 horsepower and increased torque from 210 to 214 lb/ft. at 4,400 rpm. The Avalon comes equipped with safety features such as dual air bags, side-impact door beams and child safety locks. Convenience features include remote fuel and trunk release and power windows and locks. The XLS upgrades the XL with intermittent windshield wipers, outside temperature display and leather wrapped steering. Optional on the XL and standard on the XLS are anti-theft device with keyless entry system, aluminum wheels and power bucket seats. Offered at extra cost on both models are: moonroof, premium radio with cassette/CD and a leather trim package.
