For 1997, the Taurus wagon is available in two models; GL and LX. A center console that can flip into a seat and the optional third row seat, enables the Taurus wagon to carry up to eight passengers. Standard on the Taurus is an integrated control panel, which contains sound and climate controls. This panel centralizes the controls and it allows the stereo to be mounted in the trunk which helps to prevent stereo theft. The Taurus wagon is equipped with air conditioning and a battery saver (turns interior lights off after 45 minutes). In addition, the Taurus has attained the status of a low-emission vehicle (LEV) for 1997. The Mercury Sable wagon is the sister car to the Taurus.
