The 1997 Contour sedan is available in four models - (Base) Contour, GL, LX, and SE. The Contour is built in Mexico and the U.S. with 80% recyclable plastic parts. New in the Contour lineup is the Base model. The Duratec 2.5L V6 engine is standard on the SE, optional on the GL and not available on the base, it features a 100,000 mile tune-up interval. Available only on the base and GL models is a gaseous fuel alternative engine, with automatic overdrive transmission. The SE comes standard equipped with new 15 inch cast aluminum wheels.
