The 1997 Mustang is available in four models - (Base) and GT models in two body styles: coupes and convertibles. New for 1997, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) is standard on all models and redesigned (smaller) keyless entry transmitter. New exterior colors for the GT models include Aztec Gold and Autumn Orange. The Sport Appearance Group is available to base convertible and coupe models. The GT upgrades the Base model with upgraded suspension package and Traction-Lok axle. The GT convertible comes equipped with rear spoiler, leather wrapped steering and fog lights.
