The 1997.5 Altima is available in four models-XE, GXE, SE and GLE. Prices have been restructured to include an average increase of 1.3%. Prices on anti-lock brakes have been reduced by nearly half, and two new paint colors Black Cherry and Garnet Pearl have been added. Safety features include side impact door beams, child safety locks and front and rear crumple zones. Standard features include a 2.4L engine with dual overhead cam, power-assisted rack and pinion steering, dual power mirrors and reclining front bucket seats. Tilt steering, tinted glass and tachometer are also standard. Optional features include an automatic four-speed transmission (standard on GLE), cruise control and AM/FM stereo with cassette.
