The 1996 Passat is available in five models--GLS, GLX and TDI sedans, GLX and TDI wagons. Passat is releasing the all new Turbo-Diesel direct fuel injection engine for 1996. Additional new features include a variety of exterior paint colors and daytime running lights. A five-speed transmission is standard for all models(a four-speed automatic will be available for 1997). Safety features include dual air bags, side impact protection, and child safety locks. Standard features include bucket seats, central locking system and heated outside mirrors. An All Weather Package and leather seating package are available with the GLX sedan and wagon. Additional options include a power glass moonroof, and four-wheel ABS (standard on the GLX).
