The 1996 Windstar passenger van is available in two models - GL and LX. New for 1996, the front-wheel drive Windstar includes four wheel disc brakes on its trailer towing package and also on its new available Electronic Traction Control system. The GL now includes a standard 3.0 Liter V6 engine. Standard safety features include dual airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS), five-mph bumpers, childproof sliding side door lock and optional child safety seats. Interior features include seating for seven with dual high-back bucket seats and rear bench seats with optional Quad low-back bucket seats. Exterior features include an underbody spare tire carrier, rear wiper and sport style wheelcovers (cast aluminum wheels on the LX).
