The 1996 Escort is available in three model - (Base) Escort, LX and GT. For 1996 all Escorts are equipped with platinum-tip spark plugs, resulting in 100,000 mile tune-up intervals. Base and LX Escorts are equipped with a 88-hp 1.9L engine, dual air bags and all-season tires. Additional features include rear seat heating ducts, cargo area cover, center console with cupholders and reclining front bucket seats. The LX adds upgraded seat trim, AM/FM stereo and split folding rear seat. The GT features a 127-hp 1.8L engine, dual power mirrors, rear spoiler, aluminum wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering and performance tires. Options for the LX and GT include air conditioning and power moonroof. Anti-lock brakes are optional on the GT.
